IDHA Mission

The mission of the International Drum Horse Association is to fill the niche demand for a tall, athletic, heavy riding horse and to do so with a new breed, rather than creating other types within other breeds. This preserves the Clydesdale, Shire, and Gypsy Horse breeds as they should be and provides a new breed to fill the desire of a riding horse with the best attributes of these other breeds. This is done with full focus and attention on creating and promoting the International Drum Horse into a true breed for the future.

The Drum Horse is created by breeding heavy feathered horses of the Shire, Clydesdale, and Gypsy Horse breeds. The Gypsy blood does not fall below 1/16 of the mix or exceed 1/2. The studbook currently registers this combination of breeds as Drum Horse, as well as direct Drum Horse to Drum Horse breedings and Drum Horse to foundation horse. In addition, the registry also maintains a book and issues certification for foundation horses of the: Shire, Clydesdale, and Gypsy Horse breeds used in breeding Drums in order to trace and maintain a listing of horses as the foundation of the breed.
